Frequently Asked Questions
What is 3D/4D imaging? For many years sonography was limited to 2-dimensional scans through anatomy. Now imaging has been extended into 3-dimensional scanning. This requires scanning the ultrasound through many adjacent tissue cross sections to build a 3D volume of echo information.
When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound? From 16-20 weeks is the best time to see the entire body, but the face will not look completely formed. The best time to see your baby's face and features will be between 28 and 32 weeks.
Are 3D/4D ultrasounds safe for me and my baby? The biological effects and safety of ultrasound have received considerable attention in the past few years. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine has stated there have been no independently confirmed significant effects caused to mother or baby from 3D ultrasound technology.
Will my ultrasound be performed by a licensed sonongrapher? Our sonographer is ARDMS licensed and has completed extensive 3D/4D training to provide you the best possible pictures.
Do I need to have a full bladder? While your comfort is important during your session, adequate hydration improves visualization of fetal anatomy.
